Critical considerations include: joint design and dimensioning, surface preparation and cleanliness, compatibility of all façade materials, environmental conditions during installation, adherence to system testing and specification protocols. Structural silicone glazing systems require engineered design approval prior to installation.
Service life is dependent on system design, environmental exposure, and correct installation. When properly specified and installed, structural silicone glazing systems are designed for long-term performance in exterior façade applications subject to ongoing engineering review.
Structural silicone glazing systems are designed to accommodate differential movement caused by thermal expansion, wind loading, and structural deflection. The silicone joint provides elastic movement capability while maintaining adhesion and structural integrity within defined design limits.
Compatibility depends on system design and testing, but UltraGlaze SSG systems are commonly used with coated metals, anodised aluminium, glass, and other approved framing materials as part of engineered façade assemblies.
Structural silicone glazing systems are typically validated through a combination of adhesion testing, compatibility assessment, and structural performance evaluation carried out under project-specific conditions. Testing requirements are defined by façade engineers and system designers based on the performance criteria of the overall curtain wall or glazing system.
Key performance considerations for structural silicone glazing systems include adhesion to glass and framing materials, movement capability under thermal and wind loading, long-term durability under UV and weather exposure, compatibility with all façade system components, and compliance with project-specific structural design requirements. Final specification is determined through system-level engineering assessment and testing.
UltraGlaze SSG4600 is a structural silicone sealant used within the UltraGlaze SSG system for bonding glass to structural framing components. Product selection within the system may vary depending on design requirements, substrate materials, and project performance specifications.
UltraGlaze SSG systems are typically specified in curtain walling, window wall systems, and glass façades where a clean external appearance and continuous glazing aesthetic are required, alongside structural performance requirements defined by the façade design engineer.
A structural silicone glazing system works by using a high-performance silicone sealant to adhere glass units directly to a supporting frame. The sealant is designed to carry wind loads, accommodate movement, and maintain long-term adhesion and flexibility within façade systems when correctly designed and installed.
The UltraGlaze structural silicone glazing system is used to bond glass to metal framing systems in curtain wall and façade construction. It enables structural load transfer between glass and frame using a silicone-based adhesive sealant in place of mechanical retention systems, depending on system design.
